Not just a brand, but a family
Jess began Miss Lou Makes when she was a pre-school intervention teacher in South Carolina. It began as a therapeutic side hustle. She would create in between lesson planning, parent meetings, and cutting out the seemingly never-ending lamination. She found peace and solace through beading, painting, wood working, and designing.
Now Jess lives back in her home state of Massachusetts. Like many others, in 2020 she left her career for good and decided to take this ‘side hustle’ to the next level. Miss Lou Makes has now grown to include a full time cheerleader (her husband Alex) and two mini assistants Oliver and Andrea. They take walks to the beach daily with their pup Skip where they love to search for sea glass and enjoy the salty fresh air.
Through the years of playing with many mediums, Jess has honed in her craft to focus on funky beaded jewelry, color rich paintings, and mixed-media upcycled beach art. She is passionate about supporting small businesses and making connections with other creative people.
The way this family enjoys life is to latch on to inspiration and run with it, and that’s exactly how ‘Miss Lou Makes’.
